Is fear good… or is fear bad? Fear does have a protective component. It can protect you from danger. It can help you slow down and make rational decisions. It can cause you to pause before reacting impulsively. In that sense, fear can serve as a safety tool. But when fear has too much power—when it becomes unmanageable—it can also keep you bound. It can stop you from taking a step forward. It can paint a picture that isn’t even reality. Fear can have you terrified of situations that do not even exist. Fear can feel like shackles on your feet. Chains around your hands. Hands wrapped around your neck, suffocating you, making it hard to breathe. Fear can feel heavy. Fear can feel like venom injected into your system, leaving you paralyzed. So yes—fear can protect you. But fear can also harm you. The direction it takes often depends on what we do with it. And I’m not speaking from theory. I’ve personally struggled with fear over the past several months. When I started this business, fear became chains. Fear became a weight. It was so strong that I didn’t even recognize myself anymore. Normally, when I sense fear, my natural response is to fight. My natural response is to press forward. But this fear? This was different. This was a level of fear I knew I could not overcome on my If I had not gotten help with this fear, it would have destroyed me physically. I was literally shaking. At first, I tried to handle it alone, and that is when pride stepped in. I was thinking to myself, “How can I be a therapist and struggle with this?” Then I had to remember…I’m still human. When I finally humbled myself and began taking steps forward—even while trembling physically, even while my mind was racing, even while negative self-talk was I had to call on God. And God began replacing the lies with truth. God reminded me of who He is… and who I am in Him. In 2 Timothy 1:7, Scripture tells us: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.” So how do you fight? You fight spirit with spirit. So what does God’s Word say about fear? Again, 2 Timothy 1:7 reminds us: God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. Power over fear. A sound mind over racing thoughts, anxiety, depressive thoughts, hopelessness, and chaos. Peace. Fear tells you: But God’s truth says you are an overcomer. You walk in victory. Repeatedly, God says: “Do not be afraid, for I am with you.” God knows fear will arise. He created us. He understands our emotions. But He also knows there are moments when fear tries to take authority it was never meant to have. And that’s when we must get grounded in truth. Now, let me be clear—walking with God doesn’t always mean fear disappears overnight. So, is fear good or bad? The answer is both. Courage is not the absence of fear. Faith is not the absence of fear. Both courage and faith often require us to move forward while fear is still present. Isaiah 41:10
